April 8

I figured it was time for an update! We are all doing well, just very busy!

Harrison just returned to school after Spring Break. He's been doing very well these past two days. We are hoping it continues! He loves math, science and reading and puts up with writing. We enrolled him in karate at the start of the school year. He started in the Dragons as a white belt of course and is now a Dragon orange belt and has been promoted to their BBC class - it's a step up, they are more serious in class and more focused on learning the proper form for the skills. He is really starting to take it seriously and we have seen improvement in his general behavior since he started :)

Leah is doing well too. She is the one "in charge" or at least she thinks she is! She will take the pacifier Micah found under his crib away and bring it to Daddy (they aren't supposed to have them out of bed). She will pick up some random thing from the floor and bring it to one of us. She will go over to Micah or Golda and tell them No! then come tell us a whole story about what happened (I wish I knew what she was saying!). She is very much like my Mom - she picks things up and walks back and forth, puts one thing down, picks up another and walks around again. She is always walking around, never wanting to sit still, never wanting to sit and eat. Leah likes eating her veggies and starches, but getting protein into her in any form is difficult. And, all you have to do is tell her she needs to get dressed and she walks or runs right into their bedroom to wait for you.

Micah has finally gotten the hang of walking! He is falling much less and his Frankenstein impersonation is starting to fade. He has starting really fighting with Leah over almost everything. He for one certainly doesn't think she is in charge! He is very interested in figuring out how things work and will sit and examine a new item until he fully gets it. An example: they got a jack in the box for Hannukah. Micah played with it constantly, making you push it back down and turn the crank while he watched carefully. Then he made the connection between the little latch and the popping up lid. Now you push it down and he pushes the little latch down and watches it pop open! His favorite toy though is a ball. It doesn't matter what size, type, color. He smiles a huge smile, takes it and says "Ball", then throws it with a laugh.

Golda is making great progress too. She is really working on standing and cruising - it really pisses her off that everyone else can walk and she can't! She is eating more by mouth these days too (even things she isn't supposed to have when Micah slips her food). The GI doc saw her today and decided to start taking her off the Reglan which is a good thing since it has such potentially detrimental side effects. She gets OT, speech with feeding and PT and is doing really well with all three. She speaks the most and clearest of the three of them.

Okay, I gotta run now - dinner is ready.

Golda's Performance

This is from last night. Jon got them all ready for bed, but they weren't ready to go to sleep yet so he put on some Modest Mouse. They were all up and dancing (which I missed) but I did get the tail-end of Golda's "Performance"! Enjoy.

Good news

Golda had her uppr GI series today. She was not too fond of the whole thing. She was hungry, tired and annoyed. And no one was feeding her. She tasted the contrast drink then raspberried it all over her Daddy! Then she refused to open her mouth again. That meant they had to reset the table, tape her down and give her the contrast via a tube down her nose (ng tube). I don't think I need to tell you her thoughts on that! But it was all worth it when the surgeons told us there was no constriction! There was a slight narrowing where they sutured her but that will probably always be there. She needs to go for a follow up in three months but otherwise she's good :-) Jon and I were concerned about today and were quite relieved with the outcome.

Visit to the High Risk Newborn Clinic

I am working from home today so I could help Jon take the babies to the High Risk clinic. The clinic is run by the developmental pediatricians and other specialists from the hospital at which we delivered for babies born prematurely and with other high risk conditions. We bring them in and they get a physical and reviewed by a PT, OT and teacher to make sure they are reaching their milestones on time and not having any other significant problems that could be missed. Plus, it allows the neonatologists to update their outcomes- which let's them better advise other parents going through the tough decision of whether to reduce a triplet pregnancy or not.

So, Jon told me yesterday that today was the appointment but he wasn't sure of the time. Then he said it was 10:30am and was written on the calendar (which it wasn't) or in his datebook (which it wasn't). So, off we go, rushing out as usual to arrive there just at 10:30. Only to find out the appointment was actually for 9:00am!!! Luckily, they understood when I explained that I stupidly let my husband make and take care of this appointment and he didn't write anything down and that I had taken off of work for it and... they took pity on us and fit us in between other patients. Oy. Two different doctors saw the babies - one saw Leah and Micah and the other saw Golda and got a history update from me. Then we all met up again and got Leah and Micah's weight taken. All three are doing great. Golda isn't too far behind - a sure sign her therapy is working - and is actually beyond target for the number of words she says (Mama, Dada, Mema, yes, no, wow, oh, oh-no, up, yeah). Leah says Mama and Dada and sometimes Oh no! and Micah says Mama, Dada, glasses (for eyeglasses). And each of them can make some approximation of each other's names. Leah and Micah are on target or beyond for all their milestones, even without correcting their ages for their prematurity!

Here are the stats you are all waiting for: Leah now weighs 22 lbs. 2 oz. and is 31 1/2" long (the tallest!), Micah is 26 lbs. 14 oz. (the heaviest) and is 30 3/4" long and Golda is 20 lbs. 4 oz. and is 29" long. They are all doing great!

I just got back from watching Harry at Karate. It is quite frustrating actually. He can really do the skills, but he gets silly and tries to show off. He yells loudly when the teacher has them do a skill (as he is supposed to) and is very fast and accurate in the moves. The frustrating part is when he isn't being directly watched he goofs around - flailing his limbs, playing with his belt, making silly faces in the mirror and misses the instructions the teacher is giving. I know he is tons better than he was when he first started, but I don't know how they don't clock him in the head more often!

Okay. That's it for now. More later!

Good Morning Everyone!

Just a few quick updates this time. Golda was evaluated by a nutritionist and she is going to recommend services for her. This means someone will come twice a month (probably) and discuss her feedings by tube and the amount she is eating by mouth and teach us how to make adjustments, give us tips on how to get more calories in her with less volume, etc. She is currently scheduled on Feb 8th for an upper GI series to check for any constrictions. Of course if they find one then she will go in a few days later for another dilation, but so far, so good, with no signs of any constrictions. We are trying to get Golda used to using the feeding pump backpack, but man does she hate it (hopefully enough to start eating more!). She hates being stuck in the chair while she gets the pump feeds even more now that she is getting good at crawling.

Leah and Micah have now joined forces. Jon found Micah laying on the floor helping Leah stand on him while she reached up to the computer desk and handed things down to him! Then while Jon cleaned off one table they moved on to the next! Little devils!

Apparently the triplets favorite game to play is racing up and down our hallway. Jon reports that they can spend a good chunk of a day crawling / walking and chasing each other back and forth. It usually comes with screams of joy and laughing so it's quite adorable.

Harry's doing well too although hHe has been having some problems in school in the afternoons. We are going to try moving his bedtime a little earlier much to his dismay. He generally does well in school so we are hopeful this will correct the attention issues.

Okay, that's it for now. See, pretty short for me!

January 3, 2010

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a safe and happy New Year and a great holiday break. I for one am really looking forward to getting back to work and our usual routine. I love my kids and family, but I really don't know how Jon does this everyday! I have always said I would go nuts if I was home all the time and I'm getting there! lol. I can honestly say that once I am back at work I don't think I will care what anyone has for breakfast or lunch - constantly having to figure out what to feed Leah and Micah, Golda, and Harry, and me and Jon is painful. I guess that could be why Jon gets annoyed when I say I don't know what I want for dinner - oops!

This vacation has been wonderful though. I have enjoyed spending a lot of time with the kids, especially Harry. We did some shopping together and some reading and Harry and I finally finished cleaning up his room last week. He is so pleased with all the space that he has been keeping it clean! A minor miracle to be sure. It took us four days to do and included emptying every single draw and bin and rearranging everything, but it looks great now. And it makes things easier to clean and to find and play with.

Leah has really loved being able to toddle over and get hugs and snuggles from Mommy whenever she wants and she has really been taking advantage of it. Not that I am complaining at all. She is great snuggler - putting her little head down under yours and pushing against you when you kiss her. Adorable. And she has finally stopped fighting the ponytails and lets me put her hair up everyday now. She looks so freaking cute with her little ponytails that even Golda has to touch them!

Micah has finally started standing for a few minutes without holding on. He is so determined to walk! He's cruising everywhere he can and speed-crawling when he can't. He can climb stairs and anything else like a monkey. He climbs onto Golda's rocking chair, stands up and rocks, usually backwards. Onto the couch and hangs over the arm. Onto the love seat and hangs over that arm. Even onto his sisters (which usually leads to much screaming and hitting and hair pulling and ends with Micah in retreat). Micah loves to tease people, especially his Daddy. This usually entails him doing something he knows he isn't supposed to, like rocking backwards in Golda's chair, screaming to get Daddy's attention, then spinning around, sitting down and quickly putting on a big smile while looking angelic. And as soon as Daddy turns away he's back up again.

Golda is doing very well. Her therapy has really paid off. She is now a confirmed crawler, a little slow but getting faster every day. And sometimes she even crawls with her head up now so she doesn't bonk into absolutely everything! Jon even saw her cruising a bit on the couch the other day. Man are we in trouble when all three are walking pros! Golda is eating better and better too. I think the biggest challenge for us is finding things to keep her interested in eating. She does best when she is being fed while everyone else is eating and when we give her something we are eating - like Miso soup broth, crackers, the fillings from our ravioli. She really likes flavor and saltiness so we are trying to be creative and try different things often. Today she had her second helping of hummus and "mmm"ed the whole time.

I was very productive over my vacation. In addition to cleaning Harry's room I (with Pam's help) re-organized the babies' room and our room and finally got the cards out for the babies' birth announcements/thank yous and our moving cards! The cards are the biggest weight off my shoulders. I have been working on them off and on, whenever I had a chance, since the triplets were born and they are of course way over due, but please enjoy them.

And the last thing on my To-Do List, I have posted a ton of photos for you to enjoy. There are the Lunching Triplets, our Visit to Great Grandma, the Hanukkah Party at Grandma Deena, Christmas 2009, Leah and Micah's first time eating blueberry pancakes, Harry's Yellow Belt Test, a combined album of Chanukkah for the Babies and Brent's birthday, the first night of Hanukkah 2009, some random shots of Thanksgiving weekend 2009, and of course, Random Cuties as of 1-3-10. There are also two albums from Aunt Sheila. One is Hope's Baby Shower and the other is from our visit to meet Liam and Liam's Bris, with a cake for Julian's birthday thrown in!

I hope everyone has an easy return to work and/or school. At least some of you have Martin Luther King Day to look forward to this month!

December 19, 2009

Hi Everyone! I hope you are having a nice holiday season. We have enjoyed Hanukkah this year. Harry loved the presents he got and the triplets figured out what to do with those wrapped things - rip them open and eat the paper of course! Then play with the stuff inside the box (and the box too).

Great news about Harry - he just earned his yellow belt in karate today! He was very proud of himself and looked adorable showing off all he could do. It was quite an accomplishment for him considering half of what he had to learn was "eyes on Joshu" (his instructor) and "stand still"! Those were the hardest for him and he has come a long way - part of the test in fact was to stand at attention for the count of ten.

He is doing well academically in first grade but we have received a few notes from his teacher that could be summed up as "Harrison was being a pain in the butt today". I am amazed at the restraint she has shown by not actually writing that! The only other problem he has is writing, but we think that is a hold over from his earlier problems with fine motor skills. The teacher has referred him for OT so we hope they will approve it and it will help. Otherwise the lowest he has gotten on his spelling tests was an 85 (and that was because his handwriting was so sloppy she couldn't read what he wrote) and usually gets at least 100. His math tests are also usually around 90, with the errors just sloppy mistakes. I think that once he gets used to drill of test taking those mistakes will get less and less so we aren't too concerned since he does seem to grasp all of the material.

Leah is now a confirmed toddler! She walks everywhere she can and loves to show off - bending down to pick things up in both hands. It's cute though when she starts picking up speed and her upper body gets ahead of her feet and she topples over! Usually she can catch herself and stand back up, but sometimes it's a wipe out.

Micah is very jealous and has starting really working on cruising so he isn't too far behind her, but he is much more cautious so it's more slow going. And since he is a speed crawler he isn't as motivated as Leah was. Micah babbles like crazy and likes to make funny faces at everyone then smiles a huge grin :)

Golda is incredibly annoyed that she cannot move around like Leah and Micah and it's great because it's gotten her moving! First she was scootching like Micah on her tush, then her physical therapist showed her how to crawl and she's really caught on. Tonight I was laying on the love seat and she was across the living room on their little Wiggles couch. She wiggled herself off the couch and proceeded to crawl all the way over to me, grabbed on and pulled herself up!! The grin I got from her was enormous :) She is finally starting to let us feed her, although still not too much, but she will feed herself a decent amount when we give her something she can hold herself. We are waiting for the referral for a nutritionist to come through so we can figure out the best way to go about getting her to eat more by mouth. She has an appointment for the beginning of February for an upper GI series to see if there are any new constrictions forming. Happily, there aren't any signs of constrictions now, but we don't know how she will do so the surgeons want to follow her more closely for now.

Jon is settling down to his role as stay at home dad. He's got a routine established but is quite pooped most of the time. All three babies have been very snuggly and demanding lately and Harry has needed more attention for homework too so he is quite popular around here these days!

I am on vacation until January 4th! I can't say how much I needed this break. The last time I had a vacation that wasn't related to babies was when we took our cruise two years ago. In August I was hired as a Principal Scientist at Roche in the same department I had been working, RNA Therapeutics. The job is great but much more demanding than working as a temp had been so I the plant closing (the reason for my long vacation) couldn't come at a better time.

We are planning to try to really get things organized while I am home and spend some quality time as a family. Harry, and the triplets have been all over us so I guess they are appreciative of this time as well.

Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Diwali, Happy Kwanzaa and anything else I might be forgetting! And a happy New Year to everyone! I will try to post more frequently next year ;)
